Write for us
Stellar Movie Journal welcomes pitches that help readers notice how movies work. Send proposals through the Contact page; a concise idea with a clear film-craft question is more useful than a broad topic list.
What we welcome
We consider accessible essays on story, performance, visual choices, sound, editing and film history. A strong proposal identifies a focused question, the kind of examples it would use and what a reader may learn to notice. Comparisons are welcome when each work has a clear reason to be included.
Make the pitch specific
Explain the central point in a few sentences, name the likely scope and show how the piece will support its observations. Avoid plot recaps, sweeping claims about what all viewers feel and claims about a person's private life that the work itself cannot establish. Tell us if the idea has appeared elsewhere.
Sending a proposal
Use the Contact page and select the editorial question option, then identify your message as a contribution pitch. Do not send a complete draft unless requested. A proposal is not a promise of publication, and we may edit accepted work for clarity and fit.
A movie rewards a second look
We treat film as made work: choices in a scene can be noticed, compared and discussed without needing specialist knowledge.
